Europe's Money, America's Address

28 July 2026  ·  1 min read

Europe’s ETF industry just had its best half-year ever: $265.65 billion gathered in H1 2026, up 51% from H1 2025, according to ETFGI’s 2026-07-13 report.

But the money isn’t staying in Europe.

June’s flows went to a different address

European-equity ETFs recorded $2.2 billion in outflows in June, the third straight monthly outflow. Funds targeting North American stocks took in $14.7 billion the same month, more than three times their average monthly haul over the past year, per MoneyWeek’s 2026-07-08 reporting on Morningstar and Lipper data.

Total European ETF flows were still strong in June, roughly $45 billion, 29% above the three-month average. The fundraising hasn’t slowed. It’s just not being pointed at home anymore.

What this doesn’t show: fund domicile isn’t investor nationality. A European-listed ETF can be bought by anyone, so this tracks where the money is invested, not who’s buying it.
